Piece of cake, really. Point bike at city, ride, arrive, stop. Well, ok, there's a bit more to it than that, but it's not too much of a challenge.
QL51 was under construction all the way until it joined QL1. QL1 might as well have been under construction. Maybe it was. Massive truck car park anyway. By and large, the trucks respect the bike lane. I guess you have to when there's so many moto users around.
Once in the city, things are much more tidy: big, wide eight to ten lane highways, with super-wide bike lanes, good visibility, signage. All very rideable. The coverage of Saigon on my map software is good, so I was able to plot an efficient route right into cheapy backpacker land. All done in three hours, and in time for a late lunch.
